KCS construction to affect street crossings

Weather permitting, ongoing construction on several of Laredo's Kansas City Southern railroad street crossings will include closures.

KCS will coordinate with area businesses to maintain access. The traveling public should slow down, drive with extreme caution, and observe all safety signs, traffic control devices, message boards and flaggers in the work zone area.

-Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 a.m. through Friday, Feb. 25, 6 p.m.: Remove and replace railroad track on Washington Street.

-Friday, Feb. 25, 7 a.m. through Saturday, Feb. 26, 6 p.m.: Remove and replace railroad track on Santa Rita Street and Vidaurri Street.

-Monday, Feb. 28, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Remove and replace railroad track on San Agustin Street.

Construction scheduled for Ceder/Clark intersection

Rovan, a private contractor hired by the City of Laredo, will temporarily cause traffic inconvenience and interrupt water services for some customers at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Clark Boulevard in order to replace an old 8-inch waterline. Affected customers in this area will be notified by the contractor (through a flier) at least 24 hours before the water is shut-off.

Construction is scheduled from 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, through 2 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28.

Progress updates will be made available by the Utilities Department.

Motorists and pedestrians traveling through the area are cautioned to heed all posted traffic control signs and devices to provide safety to all citizens.

Construction at railroad crossings cause street closures

Weather permitting, construction on several of Laredo's Union Pacific railroad street crossings will include several closures, starting Tuesday, Feb. 22, through Thursday, Feb. 24.

The Union Pacific Railroad will coordinate with area businesses to maintain access. The traveling public should slow down, drive with extreme caution, and observe all safety signs, traffic control devices, message boards and flaggers in the work zone area. These intersections will be closed to thru traffic between four to eight hours.

Feb. 22: Work will begin at the Justo Penn and Santa Maria crossing and the Mann Road and Santa Maria crossing.

Feb. 23: Work will continue on the Island and Santa Maria crossing and the Calton and Santa Maria crossing.

Feb. 24: Work will continue the Markley and Santa Maria crossing and Chicago and Santa Maria crossing.

Downtown intersection to close for three weeks

City of Laredo contractor, MDA of Houston, will be closing off the Iturbide/ Flores street intersection beginning Monday, Feb. 21, until March 11.

The work is part of project that includes the replacement of water, sanitary sewer and storm drain utility lines. The public is urged to observe and obey all traffic detour signs.

The previous planned closure of this same intersection on Feb. 3 was postponed because of ongoing downtown festivities.

Repairs may affect traffic flow

Southern Trenchless Solutions, a private contractor hired by the City of Laredo Utilities Department, will temporarily cause traffic inconvenience Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. along several main arterials: Chicago Street from Santa Ursula Avenue to San Bernardo, U.S. 83 and Wooster St., and Las Cruces Drive (to be closed for eastbound traffic) in order to rehabilitate three sanitary sewer manholes located at the intersections listed above.

Work is anticipated to take approximately eight hours for completion.

Motorists and pedestrians traveling through the area are urged to adhere to all posted traffic control signs and devices to provide safety to everyone.

Water line replacement schedule for Maher-Bustamante intersection

Qromex, a private contractor hired by the City of Laredo, will temporarily cause traffic inconvenience at the intersection of Maher Avenue and Bustamante Street in order to install a 24-inch waterline.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Water services will not be interrupted at this time. Affected properties in this area will be notified by the contractor at least 24 hours before water shut-off.

The replacement of the water line is anticipated to take about three weeks for completion. Progress updates will be made available by the Utilities Department.

Water line replacements to begin Wednesday

Rovan, a private contractor hired by the City of Laredo, will begin work along San Jose Street from Cedar to Hendricks Avenue in order to replace an old 8-inch water line starting Wednesday, Feb. 9. Construction is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is expected to last three weeks.

Also, Rovan is scheduled to begin work on a water line replacement Thursday, Feb. 10, along Cedar Avenue from Saunders to Ash streets. This project is expected to take four weeks.

Water services will not be interrupted at this time. Affected properties in this area will be notified by the contractor at least 24 hours before water shut-off.
